The Human Form Project
Hatched Gallery is currently working with Life Shoreditch to curate shows. Our hope is to curate an exhibition of drawings in an organic fashion on the walls of Life Shoreditch. We also have our own communal gallery that we have the right to use. So we hope is also to move the show to cover the walls of our communal gallery space as well.
Life Shoreditch will allow us to at least have one session of drawing in their Sky Light Studio. There maybe a limited number of spaces and it maybe be a late afternoon session. Currently Life is looking at it’s schedule and they should let me know soon.
Currently we have two space that we could hold our own yoga drawing sessions at Hatched Gallery’s communal galleries.
After speaking with several Yoga instructs that I know and that are at Life. It’s been suggested that we look for Yoga instructors that do the Ying-Yang yoga, because this is about holding the pose for a little bit longer than normal. The drawing sessions themselves would be about catching the movement. Using a gestural drawing method, then have a little bit of time to add more detailed lines in it. I also would ask the instructors/students permission before hand to allow artist to snap a picture of them for their studio use only. That way the artist can touch up their drawings in their own time if they desire.
I would ask that the artists to work on nice drawing paper, for the exhibition. This one looks nicer and two makes it easier to tact up. I don’t expect anyone to frame their work for this exhibition.
Any interested artists can join any of the drawing or as many of the drawing sessions they can or like to. The drawing sessions at Life would be run like a class. The artist are just apart of the class. We wouldn’t pay for the class.
The drawing sessions at the gallery, would be run by myself. I would find a one yoga instruct to run through a three hour session of Ying-Yang type yoga. I usually pay models 10-12 and hour. The artist would all split the cost of the model evenly. The aim would be to try and keep the sessions less than 10 pounds for each artists. The drawing sessions at the gallery can be flexible.
Please email me at Blair Lamar at Hatchedgallery@gmail.com any ideas or concerns about the project as well as times that are best for you for drawing sessions.
